Hello, my name is Brett Yamaji. The goal of this blog is to share with you all what it means to be a man of God. What I have done, what I am doing, and what I am learning, but all through the lens of Scripture. But who am I? Well thanks for asking:
I was raised in a home that knew of Christ, but I did not come to know Him for His Righteousness or come to realize for myself my true depravity until I was 18 years old. I remember the event, although not the day. I was in Marine Recruit Training back in 1998, sometime in September (watches and calendars were not permitted) and we were conducting a long combat march. I had over 80 pounds of gear on me and we marched over 10 miles that morning.
In the small amount of free time we had I read my Bible and in the quietness of the march I was contemplating why God would redeem those who would continuously turn against Him every chance they got. Then it hit me! Because He loves us, not because He (feelingly) loves us, but because He is love, He chose to love us. Even though we run from Him, even though we fail to live up to His standard, He loves us and gave us His Son Jesus Christ, the perfect sacrifice. That is when He opened my eyes to His truth and I realized I needed Jesus as my Savior.
I have been married since December 14, 2002 and God has blessed us with 6 wonderful children to raise. The Lord is a generous God; He only does good for us. Even things that we believe are tragic events in our lives He does for our good. We have all experienced them. The question is – do we exalt Him when they happen to us? This is one way we live our lives to Him. My wife and I had such an event in our life in 2008 and I will share that with you in time.
I serve the local body of Christ, known as Hope Community Bible Church. God placed me among His people to serve. I have grown so much in this body since 2008. The thankfulness I have for this church is only surpassed by the thankfulness I have to God for my salvation. I am now serving as an Elder, among other hats, to teach, to oversee, and to guide. It is this reason why I am using this blog, to instruct other men. I pray that you are equally engaged in a local body, you are equally thankful to God for what He provides you and you employ everything for His glory.
Again my prayer is that you will see value in what I share through this blog and that it ultimately will bring Him glory.
